BANF Intelligent Tire System

One-Line Product Definition

AI-based smart tire sensor system attached to truck tires to predict and warn of explosions and punctures in advance

Problem Definition

In the US alone, tire defects cause 646 deaths and over 11,000 traffic accidents annually. Existing vehicle TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) only alerts after the pressure drops, so it cannot prevent suddentire blowouts (explosions).

In particular, the large truck transport industry is experiencing casualties, logistics delays, and hugecost losses (US$4.5 billion annually)due to tire bursts. Nevertheless, there is a lack of technology to predict and address tire abnormalities in advance, leaving drivers to rely on periodic inspections and visual checks.

In short, the problem was the lack of preventive monitoring to "look inside the tire."

Key Differentiators

BANF TireSafe is innovative in that it predicts tire abnormalities in advance, going beyond simple monitoring. The iSensor attached to the inner wall of each tire collects 4,000 vibration data points per second via a 3-axis accelerometer, and applies wireless smart profiler technology for power supply during rotation.

The AI algorithm analyzes the collected high-resolution vibration/vibration pattern data to precisely detect everything from slow air leaks to structural fatigue accumulation that can occur within days. As a result, when there are signs of abnormality in the tire, it sends a warning days before an explosion or puncture occurs, and provides real-time alarms to the vehicle dashboard or integrated control dashboard.

Like the expression "turning an accident into a schedule,"the biggest differentiator is that it alerts at the stage of failure symptoms, rather than post-warning like TPMS. In addition, by digitizing vehicle management through remote central control of the vehicle, it is ahead of competitors in the area of Preventive Maintenance.

In summary, BANF TireSafe is a solution that turns tires from a risk factor into a data asset.

Key Adopters

The main customers are commercial vehicle operators. For example, logistics truck transport companies, bus companies, and delivery vehicle fleets will install the TireSafe system on their vehicles and adopt it in a B2B format.

Also, tire manufacturers (OEMs)may embed this technology in new products, or vehicle manufacturers may adopt it as an option. Currently, BANF is conducting pilot tests with more than 20 global tire manufacturers and logistics companies, and has also been selected for Hyundai Motor's open innovation project, leading to collaboration with finished vehicle companies.

Therefore, it is commercialized in the form of B2B (logistics/transportation) and B2B2C (complete vehicle options), and the final benefit is returnedto all drivers and pedestrians on the road (B2G public interest effect).Initially, it will be sold mainly to corporate customers such as large logistics companies, and can be expanded to the general passenger car market when economies of scale are achieved.

Scalability

This solution can be widely applied regardless of vehicle type or region. Currently, it focuses on commercial vehicle tires such as trucks, but there is potential for expansion into areas where safety is important, such as autonomous vehicles or aircraft landing gear tires.

Technically, since it is an IoT/AI solution, cloud upgrades are expected to improve algorithms or expand into other component predictive diagnostics. However, in the early stages, the focus is on the needs of the commercial truck market, so additional development such as price reduction and sensor miniaturization is required to expand to passenger cars.

Since product certification is required to comply with the traffic safety standards of each country, regulatory barriers are not high. Rather, explosive growth is possible if the government mandates the installation of commercial vehicles. At this point, it is a solution limited to a specific industry group of logistics/transportation, but its size is large and it is a global common demand, so continuous growth is high.

Judges' Evaluation

With the praise of "Digital Innovation in the Tire Industry in 120 Years,"BANF re-proved its technology by winning the CES Innovation Award for the second time in 2024. Experts say"a game changer that will drastically reduce costs in the back-end industry (logistics)"and are expressing expectations for commercialization.

The industry is very interested in the 70% accident reduction and 20% fuel efficiency improvement figures shown in the actual pilot, and the fact that it is already collaborating with global tire companies is an element that increases market credibility. In terms of investment and market,it is evaluated as "focusing on a specific niche market, but its ripple effect is significant."However, in terms of competition, existing TPMS companies or vehicle OEMs may develop similar technologies, but BANF has a first-mover advantage. As the CES award has gained publicity, it is expected to show visible results such as contracts with large logistics companies within the next 1-2 years.

Overall, the market demand is clear and the product effect has been proven, so the commercialization outlook is very positive.

전반적으로 시장 요구가 분명하고 제품 효과가 입증되어 있어 상용화 전망에 대해 매우 긍정적입니다.
