It is difficult to detect pet obesity or health problems in the early stages, and there is no way to know other than regular checkups. Veterinary checkups are expensive and stressful, making them difficult to do frequently. There was a lack of means for guardians to easily check their health at home.

Pompet calculates obesity in 15 seconds by measuring abdominal fat thickness using non-invasive sensors such as ultrasound [72].

It also visualizes health indicators such as obesity-related disease risk and basal metabolic rate according to body fat percentage through a mobile app.

It is characterized by early detection of obesity-related diseases (arthritis, diabetes, etc.) common in elderly pets over 5 years of age, and provides personalized management guides (diet, exercise) [72]. This replaces the subjectivity of existing palpation (touching) judgments with data, enabling objective management. The fact that it is a body composition analysis device for pets is innovative.

Pet guardians (B2C) who are highly interested in health management are the main customers. Animal hospitals and pet shops (B2B) can also purchase it as a consultation/examination aid.

Given the size of the global pet care market, if this product proves to be reliable, there may be worldwide demand.

Initially, it is likely to be deployed through domestic sales in Korea and some online funding, but the problem of pet obesity is universal, so there is sufficient potential to expand overseas. It can also be expanded to other animal species (cats, etc.) in the future.

It was noted at CES for its novel idea, as evaluated that “the healthcare era for pets following humans has arrived.”

It was evaluated that the idea implementation and market needs matching were more prominent than the technical difficulty, and the general consumer response was more positive than expected. However, there are also opinions that the actual accuracy and continuous use induction (whether the guardian will use it consistently) should be monitored.
