The transmission of large amounts of data between mobile devices still often relies on cables (such as USB). Wi-Fi or Bluetooth have limitations in stability and latency, making them insufficient for monitor connections, VR headset video transmission, etc.

In particular, there was no high-speed data communication alternative even when trying to implement a completely wireless smartphone (portless). In addition, waterproof wearables had port issues, resulting in cumbersome and slow data transfer.

Uniqconn's UC60 chip utilizes the unlicensed 60GHz ISM band to support ultra-high-speed data transmission of 10Gbps or higher [116]. By integrating a proprietary transceiver IC and antenna package, the size is minimized, and the bidirectional bandwidth is maximized with Full-duplex (simultaneous transmission and reception) technology.

As a result, large amounts of data can be exchanged between smartphones and peripherals with cable-level low latency, allowing, for example, wireless output of phone video to AR glasses or implementation of wireless docks. In addition, the self-adaptive beamforming technology minimizes alignment issues between devices, maintaining the connection even when moving freely within a certain distance.

Using this chip allows ports to be removed from the device design, making it an innovative solution that increases complete waterproof/dustproof capabilities and design freedom [117].

Electronic device manufacturers (OEMs) such as smartphones, AR/VR devices, and laptops are the customers. Also targeting equipment manufacturers who want to make industrial connectors wireless (B2B).

The market potential is vast because the demand for cable-free environments is high in both industrial and consumer areas. In particular, if major smartphone companies push for port removal, the adoption of solutions like UC60 could accelerate.

Currently, it is in competition with universal standardization (such as WiGig), but Uniqconn is in an advantageous position as a technology leader, receiving government support as a super-gap startup [118]. Stabilizing mass production and reducing costs are considered challenges for the future.

It was introduced as "magic that eliminates cables" in media such as "Innovation & Tech Today" and raised expectations [119]. The CES judges also highly evaluated it as a data interface innovation and selected it for the Innovation Award.

However, the industry also points out the difficulty of forming an ecosystem, as in the case of Intel WiGig in the past. In other words, it is advised that collaboration with major companies is essential because a single chip is difficult to become a standard.

Overall, while the technology has been successfully implemented, the strategy of establishing itself as a market standard will determine its future reputation.
