An AI-based system that detects and predicts landslides and debris flows in real time. It provides a solution for high-precision monitoring of large areas and early warning in the event of a disaster.
Landslides or debris flows (flowing soil and rocks) were difficult to predict because the range of detection sensors was limited, and the response was slow when they occurred, resulting in significant casualties. Existing detection methods had limitations in accuracy and coverage due to point-by-point measurement.
Smart Terra Sense scans the entire mountainous area in real time by fusing AI video analysis and IoT sensors to capture subtle changes in indicators [95]. It detects ground movement using satellite/drone imagery + ground sensor data, and predicts signs of landslides more precisely than before by learning past data.
As a result, it has achieved both improved accuracy and wider coverage than existing methods [96].
For example, if it is possible to detect minute deformations of a mountain slope after rainfall and issue a warning one hour before a landslide, it is possible to secure time for evacuation. Establishing an AI-based early warning system is the biggest differentiator.
National disaster management agencies and local governments (B2G) mainly introduce this system and install it in disaster-prone areas. Construction companies can also use it to prevent accidents when developing mountainous areas.
The frequency of landslides is increasing due to climate change, creating demand worldwide. As it was developed with the support of the Korean government, it can be exported to landslide-prone countries such as Southeast Asia and South America after domestic pilot application.
However, the long adoption cycle is a variable due to the nature of public projects.
As a highly necessary solution, it received good reviews at CES in terms of social value. Experts were interested in the presentation data that it was technically far more accurate than existing solutions, but there was also a cautious view as commercial verification has not yet been completed. Overall, it is regarded as an area that needs attention rather than being underestimated.
Smart E&C's Smart Terra Sense increases the accuracy and efficiency of disaster prevention through AI-based real-time debris flow detection, but the B2G-centered market and long adoption cycle may limit growth.
