An autonomous thermal detection robot that can be deployed to fire scenes in place of firefighters to perform initial suppression and search and rescue operations; an AI firefighting robot system.
Fire scenes pose a significant safety risk to firefighters due to high heat and toxic gases. Furthermore, searching for people in complex indoor structures can be time-consuming, leading to missed golden time opportunities. There is a high need to replace these dangerous tasks with robots.
Widemount's firefighting robot navigates inside buildings without GPS using mmWave radar SLAM autonomous driving, and identifies flames and people with thermal imaging cameras and AI vision [101]. This enables rapid identification of fire locations and discovery of people even in smoky, complex indoor environments.
It is also equipped with a highly heat-resistant design and a built-in fire extinguishing agent injector, allowing it to quickly enter the fire scene and carry out initial suppression. The AI algorithm modifies the real-time path according to the way the fire spreads, and transmits the secured video/data to the command center to support firefighter decision-making.
It won the Firefighting Best of Innovation Award, and the key is the paradigm shift in firefighting with minimized human intervention and high-efficiency suppression.
Fire stations, industrial facility safety teams, airports, etc. (B2G/B2B) purchase and deploy it to the field. Demand is particularly high in large petrochemical complexes.
As a Hong Kong PolyU startup, it received the Best of CES locally, receiving high government support and international attention [102]. In the future, it can be expanded to pilot applications for firefighting agencies worldwide → standard equipment. Proving price and reliability is a challenge, but it has the potential to become an irreplaceable essential equipment when the technology matures.
As a CES 2026 Best of Innovation Award winner, it has been highly praised for both its technology and impact. Along with the comment "the future of firefighting", it is a hot topic in the robotics industry in conjunction with the Boston Dynamics Atlas commercialization news. Except for realistic concerns about commercialization timing and cost, the reviews are generally positive.
🔥 High marketability / Business connection possible (Although it is a special market that requires government budget input, adoption is highly likely due to safety needs, and standardization is expected in the future)
