An innovative water tech solution as a smart water quality testing device that provides lab-level water analysis and personalized hydration guidance at home through AI prediction and health data integration.
There has been little way to accurately know the quality of tap water or water purifier water at home. Existing test kits have low accuracy and limited items, and professional water quality tests are costly and time-consuming. In addition, there is no customized advice that considers the impact of water's mineral composition on individual health.
AQUAL Pro S is a portable, compact, precision optical sensor that measures multiple underwater ions and contaminants to obtain lab-level water quality data within 1 minute [49]. Furthermore, in conjunction with personal health information (e.g., physical condition, nutritional intake information), AI provides customized hydration recommendations [50]. For example, it analyzes the user's water intake and mineral concentration in the water to provide mineral supplementation or filter replacement alarms when necessary [51]. Predictive functions such as filter life prediction and early detection of water quality abnormalities are also features. Compared to existing water purifiers, there is a practical differentiation in terms of data-based personalization and water quality-health connection insights.
General household consumers (B2C) can purchase it as a replacement or add-on to water purifiers. It can also be used for customer health management in hospitals and fitness centers (B2B), or water purifier manufacturers can integrate it into their products.
It has global market potential as a smart home health device. In particular, it can create demand in water-sensitive areas (such as India) or the premium wellness market. Although Rebio is a startup, it has gained publicity with the Innovation Award, and collaboration and investment attraction can accelerate commercialization [52]. However, it is still in the prototype stage, and mass production stabilization and price competitiveness are challenges.
It received positive reviews as a “novel idea that connects water quality in daily life with health.” Technically, the miniaturization of precision optical measurement is impressive, and it was also well-received at CES for cross-innovation in digital health and IoT [49]. On the other hand, some questioned how much incentive consumers would have to use it consistently in the actual market. In summary, the initial reaction is favorable, but the formation of effective demand remains to be seen.
⚠️ Impressive technology but market uncertainty (the concept and technology are excellent, but it is unclear whether the new category of home water quality testing will become popular)
